Fencing is Fun, Engaging, Novel, Challenging and Exciting.
Fun, because having fun is the best way to learn and improve fitness and coordination. Engaging, because this is about strategy, physical coordination and awareness. Novel, because it is like no other sport. It's one of only five disciplines that has been in every Olympics and its roots go back to the Pharaohs. Challenging, because even after a lifetime of practice, there is always something to learn. Exciting, because you react in fractions of seconds. You have to act instinctively, stop thinking and start fencing. And that's the beauty of the sport.
My name is Rupert Davies-Cooke. I am the lead coach at UCL Fencing Club in Central London as well as teach at The Lansdowne Fencing Club and Central London Fencing Club.

In 2025, I did a live stream with video influencer Samham. I taught him how to fence and spar with one of our fencers at Central London Fencing Club, all within two hours.
I am a British Fencing Core Coach Developer, meaning I teach people who have never fenced how to teach a fencing taster course to young people. I also teach the basics of fencing to scout leaders, council employees, the police force, and teachers.
2012 - British Fencing Award of Merit
From 2010 to 2012, I worked with British Fencing and the Olympic Foil Team, organising the Lansdowne International Challenge Cup with teams from Japan, Russia and Poland. British Fencing recognised this work with an Award of Merit.
2023 - Foil UK Sport Level 3
